The Tuesday Rant: May 2, 2017

A couple weeks ago, I put out a poll asking if folks would be upset if I started posting “normal” content on my site. Since I received no votes, but myself, I’m inclined to dig right in.

Oh, FYI: This isn’t safe for work due to language and possible GIF usage. So… here’s a couple hashtags: #NSFW, #Politics, #Rant

The Grind

Every day I wake up, walk over to my phone and pick it up, then sit back down and unlock the damned thing. There’s always a range of content: work emails, personal work/writing emails, periodic Facebook notifications, and the dreaded News app notices.

I don’t necessarily pick the damn thing up for anything but work related stuff (mostly so I can fire off any quick emails and fix any emergencies so I can luxuriously make coffee and watch The Daily Show), but I invariably end up drawn into the deep red clusterfuck that is America right now. My social media feed tends to be center of liberal with a heavy dose of far left liberal/extremist stuff from some friends. I used to have a pretty substantial far right flow of shit, too, but then I realized that there wasn’t enough time in life to argue with people who believe that “pedophile Liberal Democrats” would run a child sex ring out of a pizza shop.

At least when I disagree with my ultra-liberal friends, they can typically agree to disagree. They’ve never, for example, stalked me back to direct messages and call me names like they’re a 4th grade bully or threatened to slam my dick in a door.

But I digress.

Oh, one more non-sequitur: “clusterfuck” wasn’t in my word processor’s dictionary. You can check that one off the to-do list.

And speaking of clusterfucks… the news.

Clusterfucking The News

Every morning, I pick up my phone and read through the most insane bullshit.

Trump on the Civil War: “Why Could That One Not Have Been Worked Out.”

Alabama Rep Mo Brooks [R] says sick people don’t deserve health care (I was sure this one was click bait… it’s not; what a douche. Clip ends with wide eyes and him furiously trying to backpedal)

Trump Invites Controversial Philippines Leader to White House

Etcetera.

It’s enough to make you want to slam your face into a wall until the pure bliss of unconsciousness takes you for an indefinite amount of time.

For the last few weeks, I decided I’d step away from all of this. Amy and I were working on a different business venture and there was a ton of work to do (shout out to all our friends who came and moved furniture, assembled more furniture, and painted cupboards!), so I set aside the insanity filled realm of our Trumpist Government.

It was a peaceful time, full of hope and wonder.

And then I looked at the news again.

What. The. Fuck.

Why do we elect these morons? We had eight years of obstructionist government capped off with one of the most egregious misuses of power in the history of our union — **cough**Garland**cough** — and “fixed it” by voting in a listing ship full of rats. Now we have a government that should be unified unable to push through even the simplest bit of legislation, or even agree on voting on something, without the schism that is as obvious as a bear scratching his balls popping up and shattering any expectation of cooperation.

Dear Republicans: please know that you don’t have a unified party any longer. True “Small Government” Republicans don’t exist anymore in our current government unless they’re Libertarians. And not the “Don’t Tread on Me” type that can be rational and have a realistic discussion. No, it’s the ones that are all about letting people burn rather than support the idea of any sort of federal funding for public services. Beyond the extremists on the “Freedom Caucus”, there are the more rational and “traditional” Republicans who at the very least can hold a realistic, empathetic discussion about the world. I’m thinking of McCain and Graham. No, they don’t actually do anything other than posture and pray, but at least you can talk to them.

Oh, and Democrats…

Anyway, at least the Democrats seem to be unifying in some way. Lord knows they weren’t doing that anytime in the past eight years. Hell, they came in under Obama with heavy gains and proceeded to dump that all over the ground like a shitty waiter at a waffle house. And those first few attempts at a budget? I mean, it was amateur hour for a year after Obama was elected.

That said, once Obama hit his stride, I was a fan and a vocal detractor. The guy stomped all over civil rights like it was his job (it’s not) and then would do a complete 180 and dig in hard on social justice issues like he was elected for it (he was). Who else could pull off filing lawsuits against reporters and pushing through landmark healthcare in the same term? O-fucking-bama, that’s who.

And just like that, I’m out for now.
